My Heroes!

Sun May 15, 2005, 6:18 AM
Hmm... I really don't pay much mind to my DeviantArt journal, but just thought of using it once in a while.
Well, every girl needs a hero or some gorgeous hunk to drool over or some prince charming to fantasize with. Just thought of telling my 3 and why. :)

HECTOR: *Prince* Hector to be precise. I never liked all those Prince Charmings with clear complexions who ride up on their white horses and sweep pretty girls off their feet. The ones I love are the Warrior Princes, rugged ones, faces scarred from battle, who go out there and fight for their honor, not just impress princesses. Hector is all that. Mighty Trojan prince, devout crown-prince of Troy. Honorable, practical (can be rash though) and brave, he was a true king and would have been one great ruler. Fierce, brutal and tough in battle, he fought with proverbial courage and determination for his country, proving himself a scourge upon his enemies and continued to make the enemies of Troy have second thoughts about attacking the city. He struck fear into the enemy and is the greatest obstacle to overcome should they wish to invade the city. Yet, although a fearsome warrior, he was a kind, gentle and loving man to his family and kinsmen. He was the ultimate family man, one which every girl would hope for her husband to be. He loved his family, wife and son with all his heart and fought the Trojan War, not just for his country, but for them. He could have stayed behind the walls as his lucky (lucky to have him, but unlucky for her fate) wife, Andromache pleaded, but he knew that their protection would be better with him holding off the enemy and so he fought, even to the death. And even in death, his bravery rings through the centuries, his deeds remembered and his name feared.

ERIK/the PHANTOM: Okay, so he's not exactly hero material, being more of the villain in the movie. But he's my hero. Now he's different. Rash, allowing love to blind him and drive him to do terrible things, he terrorized the occupants of the Opera House, killed people and threatened lives, very much unlike Hector. However, deep inside, he was a lonely, compassionate soul whose only wish was to be loved by the girl he loved. At first, he pursued her at any cost and failed to consider how she felt, driven mad by his love. But in the end, he realized her feelings and finally let her go despite knowing the life of solitude which awaited him, a great selfless act. He was chivalrous and a true gentleman and would have made a great husband. If he were not hideous, he, like Hector, would have been a husband sought after by all women. He would have stayed loyal and true to his wife and done anything to make her happy and love her only. It is sad that he was cursed with such a hideously deformed face. But true beauty comes from within... though it was revealed somewhat too late.

ENJORLAS: Remember what I said about Warrior Princes? Well, Enjorlas is one of them. Unlike Hector, he was not a prince (rich lad though) and not a real warrior, but that's only literally. He was a prince in that he was an utterly handsome lad, and a warrior in that he was a revolutionary leader who fought for the freedom for the poor of France, capable of being a terror. From the thoughtfulness of his gaze one might have supposed that in some previous existence he had lived through all the turmoil of the Revolution. He was familiar with every detail of the great event; he had it in his blood as though he had been there. His was a nature at once scholarly and warlike, and this is rare in an adolescent. He was both thinker and man of action, a soldier of democracy in the short term and at the same time a priest of the ideal rising above the contemporary movement. He was austere, seeming not to be aware of the existence on earth of a creature called woman. his sole passion was for justice, his sole thought to overcome obstacles. He gave his life for his duty. He fell with honor and pride and bravery in its highest form. And for friendship, he lay with his friends after the final battle.

These are my 3 heroes, Hector, Erik and Enjorlas. I know, Erik seems to be the odd one out, not being the honorable and courageous soldiers like the other two. But anyhow, these three men are the three whom I look up to the most. Sadly, if you realize, that all three end up dead in their individual stories. But heroes they are and heroes they always will be.
(Think I might be getting a little too poetic here...)
